"Not all who wander are lost."
To saunter is to walk slow, while meandering and musing at one's surroundings. The "Sandhills" is a region of distinct ecology cutting through the Carolinas and characterized by high, rolling hills of sandy soil spattered with scrub oaks and longleaf pine trees. I'm a product of this place. I live in this land, and it lives in me. During my long saunters, I've learned to love these sandy hills and the life that clings to them. Now and then I explore other sectors of South Carolina, and here I hope to share a bit of what I've learned and experienced in the natural world. Perhaps you'll be encouraged to saunter yourself and see some of the species that make our world so special.
